Altenew has a Mini Delight Subscription with which you receive a little stamp set and coordinating die each month (you can also get the individual stamp and die combo as a single purchase for a couple of dollars more). I thought it would be a great starting point to spark my creativity during this difficult time.
I started by stamping the feathers with Versamark Ink and heat embossing them with Ranger Gold Tinsel embossing powder (so pretty!). I then used my 24 color set of Gansai Tambi watercolors to fill them in. I used colors 50, 61 and 139. I did not use watercolor paper as I was not planning on adding a lot of color or water. I used The Stamp Market’s Premium White Cardstock . Even though it is not really heavy and has a smoother surface than Neenah Solar White, it handled the water really well. It is certainly no substitute for watercolor paper but perfect if you are just adding a little bit of color. I hope you can see in the pictures that the front of my card has no noticeable warping.
I added some splatter with watercolor 139 and I wasn’t totally in love with it but there was definitely no way to remove it so I went with it. I think the card might have looked a little “naked” without it. I die cut the panel with the second largest die from the MFT A2 Stitched Rectangle Dies Set 1 and glued it onto a piece of Lawn Fawn Sugarplum cardstock cut to 4″x5-1/4″ with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive,.
The sentiment is a combination of a “Thinking of you” die from Avery Elle and dies from the Concord & 9th Double Cut Alphabet die set. The Avery Elle die set (sentiment plus outline) is called You’ve Got This (that’s right, it’s not called Thinking of You) and has a coordinating stamp set that also has a “Thinking of you” stamp as well as a bunch of small type sentiments that go with it. I die cut all the pieces out of white cardstock and Lawn Fawn Sugarplum cardstock after applying adhesive sheet to one side of each cardstock. I attached the matching pieces together so that you could see the white peeking out from underneath the purple pieces in order to help the sentiment stand out a little more. I then added some Clear Wink of Stella over the entire sentiment.
To add a little more interest to the card front, stamped and embossed two more feathers, one on the same white cardstock and one on vellum. I colored the cardstock one, die cut both of them out, and attached them to the card with a couple of foam squares.
For the inside of the card I used one of the sentiments from the Avery Elle You’ve Got This stamp set as well as the feather, stamping them with Distress Oxide Ink in Dusty Concord, which is really similar to the Lawn Fawn cardstock I used.
I hope this card inspires you to create and enjoy a little crafty time. I hope you and your loved ones stay healthy! Hugs!
