I’m a Puffer for You Two for One Cards

This post was supposed to go live from the coast of Florida (Miramar Beach).  The location totally matched the theme of these two whimsical fish cards created with the I’m a Puffer for You Stamp + Die Combo from Hero Arts.  I call them “two for one” because I inked up a single panel of Bristol smooth white cardstock (great for ink blending) with Peacock Feathers and Lucky Clover Distress Oxide Inks.  I splattered some water over the panel and, for a little more interest, splattered some White Gold Gansai Tambi watercolor from the Starry Colors set.  Not sure you can see that in the pictures but, in person, the watercolor adds some nice shimmery splatters.  Then I used Concord & 9th’s Everyday Circles Dies to cut out the circle, and used the panel and the die cut circle to make two cards, eliminating the need to ink up two pieces of cardstock.  The Everyday Circles Dies cut that very thin black circle frame.

I stamped all the images and the black parts of the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  The “CELEBRATE” is stamped with the same Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide Ink I used on the background.  I used my MISTI to make sure I would get a nice solid impression and perfect placement.  The entire “LET’S CELEBRATE/IT’S YOUR DAY” sentiment is from the Birthday Stacks stamp set from Concord & 9th.

For this card, I inked up a wide strip of Bristol Smooth White cardstock with Wild Honey Distress Oxide Ink along the bottom and then added Twisted Citron, Abandoned Coral, and Picked Raspberry above that, creating rounded areas where the bellies of the fish would go.  I thought this would be easier than inking the fish separately and I could always add more ink after they were diecut.  I then diecut the three fish at one time.  The hat and party blower are colored with Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide Ink.

The detail around the circle on this card is created with the “sunburst” die in the Everyday Circle Dies.  I aligned it on each corner and ran it through my BigShot.

To make the fish eyes stand out a little more, I used a white Gelly Roll gel pen (my favorite gel pen) around the black centers of the big fish eyes and on the little fish eyes I used Nuvo drops.  I thought the latter looked a little weird so I used gel pen on the second card.  A coat of shimmer pen on the black fish, a thin strip of black cardstock, and black and white baker’s twine finish off this card.

For the second card, I smooshed the same inks I used for fish on the first card onto a craft mat and used a water brush to color in the fish.  As you can see, the colors are a little lighter and the ink is only inside the lines, leaving a white border.

The next card I’m going to make with this set will be for my husband using the “Let’s float away together” sentiment from this stamp set.  Our anniversary is in August and we hope to go back to the beach for it :).
